If you’ve been following our blog over the past year, you already know about the Arts on Chicago initiative, an arts-based community development project in Minneapolis.

Led by Pillsbury House + TheatreUpstream Arts, the Powderhorn Park Neighborhood Association, and MCAD Professor Natasha Pestich with support from the Ward 8 Council Office of Elizabeth Glidden, Arts on Chicago is a powerhouse collaboration that is supporting 20 creative placemaking projects over the course of one year, knitting together existing creative assets and building support for a vibrant arts and cultural district.

On Saturday, June 8, 2013, we invite you to join us for a huge community-wide celebration of Arts on Chicago! All day long, you’ll be able to experience all of the Arts on Chicago projects with the 40+ neighborhood artists who made them. Several of these projects were created by Upstream Arts affiliates, including the Chicago Avenue Stilting Club, an initiative to cultivate young stilters by Masa Kawahara (10am-12pm); What Grows Here, a “StoryWalk” led by Dylan Fresco and Michelle Barnes (2:30-4pm); and a new trio of Little Free Libraries, designed by Upstream Arts staff, teaching artists, and associates (available for visiting any time). Other events throughout the day include painting, poetry, and nature walks, as well as the 38th & Chicago Business Association’s Annual BBQ & Music Festival!
