Upstream Exhibit

Photographer Dirk Anschütz‘s “Upstream” exhibit offers straight-on, unsentimental portraits of young adults with disabilities.  Anschütz’s work focuses on the complex human being beyond the disability. This fall, we’re thrilled to be partnering with Phipps Center for the ArtsArtReach St. CroixValley Friendship Club, and Bloomington Theatre and Art Center to show this exhibit, as well as offer some exciting accompanying events, in a series of venues, creating opportunities for interaction between the disability community and the public at large. Click here to check out a great feature about the collaboration in the Stillwater GazetteClick here to download a press release.

“Upstream” Photography Exhibit at Phipps Center for the Arts
Featuring half of Anschütz’s “Upstream” portraits.

Who: Open to the general public
When: October 18-November 16, 2013 (Opening reception on October 18 from 6:30-8:30pm)

“Upstream” Photography Exhibit at ArtsReach St. Croix
Featuring the other half of Anschütz’s “Upstream” portraits, as well as self-portraits created by participants in Upstream Arts’ fall residency at Valley Friendship Club.

Who: Open to the general public
When: November 6-16, 2013 (Closing reception on November 15 at 6-8pm)

“The Art of Access” Workshop at ArtReach St. Croix
Who: Educators, artists, arts organizations, parents, guardians, siblings
When: November 7, 2013, 4:30-6pm
Where: ArtReach St. Croix, 224 4th St N, Stillwater, MN 55082 – click for map
Cost: $10 per person (FREE for ArtReach St. Croix, Phipps Center for the Arts, and Valley Friendship Club members)

This fall, Upstream Arts is partnering with ArtReach St. Croix to offer “The Art of Access.” Lead by Upstream Arts, this training is for artists, educators, arts organizations, and anyone else interested in exploring how to universally design arts events, exhibits, and educational programming for individuals of all ages and abilities. Come away with best practices and tools that can be used to ensure accessibility to a wide range of users and audiences. Click here to download a flyer with more information.
