Our Teaching Artists and Staff are involved in a wide range of professional projects outside of their work with Upstream Arts. Each month, we post opportunities to see their performances, exhibitions, and other events around the Twin Cities and beyond. Click on the links below to learn more.
Charles Fraser teaches improvisation at Concordia University, and the improv troupe he leads will be a part of Shakespeare Under the Stars at Frauenshuh Amphitheatre on Thursday, September 25.
Rachel Jendrzejewski will be presenting a work-in-progress excerpt from In Which _______ and Others Discover the End (a new collaboration with performance ensemble SuperGroup, art rock band Brute Heart, and installation artist Liz Miller) as part of the Independent Showcases at the Arts Midwest Conference on Thursday, September 18, 10:30pm. The performance will take place at the TEKBOX Theater in the Cowles Center (Suite 215).
Masanari Kawahara is premiering his new solo performance Little Boy on September 19 at Pillsbury House + Theater. Meet Little Boy, the world’s first talking (and farting) atom bomb. As this reluctant creation is brought to life, he contemplates his origin and impact. Masa is a puppeteer, painter, and performance artist who was born in Hiroshima and grew up playing in the Peace Park built where the bomb was dropped. Presented by Pangea World Theatre. Sept. 19-Oct. 5; 7:30pm Thursdays-Saturdays, 4:30pm Sundays.
Norah Long is stepping outside her comfort zone this month. Known as a singer-actor, she will ALSO be adding a third skill to her performances this month: violinist! She will be portraying Mother Nature in Nature, an outdoor walking musical play from TigerLion Arts about Emerson, Thoreau, and (you guessed it) Nature. Alongside fellow UA teaching artist Matt Sciple, the cast will lead audiences on an experiential theater journey through four locations in the MN Landscape Arboretum. Visitors can enjoy the 1,100 acres of Arboretum at their leisure before or after the performance; admission is free with a theater ticket. Sept. 12-Oct. 12; 5pm Thursdays and Fridays, 1pm and 5pm Saturdays and Sundays.
