Our Teaching Artists and Staff are involved in a wide range of professional projects outside of their work with Upstream Arts. Each month, we post opportunities to see their performances, exhibitions, and other events around the Twin Cities and beyond. Click on the links below to learn more.
Charles Fraser is the stage manager for Park Square Theatre’s 33 Variations, running October 10 – November 2.
Rachel Jendrzejewski is performing in The Shifting Space Around Us, an installation by Megan and Murray McMillan for Scotiabank Nuit Blanche in Toronto on October 4, from 7pm-7am. She’s also sharing work-in-progress from In Which _______ and Others Discover the End, her new collaboration with SuperGroup, Brute Heart, and Liz Miller, at TU Dance in St. Paul on October 12, 7:30pm. Both events are free and open to the public.
Masanari Kawahara‘s new solo performance, Little Boy, continues through October 5 at Pillsbury House + Theater. Meet Little Boy, the world’s first talking (and farting) atom bomb. As this reluctant creation is brought to life, he contemplates his origin and impact. Masa is a puppeteer, painter, and performance artist who was born in Hiroshima and grew up playing in the Peace Park built where the bomb was dropped. Presented by Pangea World Theatre. 7:30pm Thursdays-Saturdays, 4:30pm Sundays.
Norah Long is performing the role of Mother Nature in Nature, an outdoor walking musical play from TigerLion Arts about Emerson, Thoreau, and (you guessed it) Nature. Alongside fellow UA teaching artist Matt Sciple, the cast leads audiences on an experiential theater journey through four locations in the MN Landscape Arboretum. Visitors can enjoy the 1,100 acres of Arboretum at their leisure before or after the performance; admission is free with a theater ticket. Through Oct. 12; 5pm Thursdays and Fridays, 1pm and 5pm Saturdays and Sundays.
Lindsey Samples is hiking the Grand Canyon rim-to-rim on October 12 – and she’s raising funds for Upstream Arts in the process! Click here to watch a video trailer for her adventure (created by UA Teaching Artist Dylan Fresco and UA Executive Director Julie Guidry).
