Musician David K will play live at The Art of We
Just 10 days until The Art of We, our 2nd Annual Meeting and Fundraiser, coming up on Monday, May 11! Between now and then, keep checking back with this blog for sneak peeks at the fun to come. Next up: We’re thrilled to have the one and only David K treating us all to live music during the dessert hour from 8-9pm. Keep reading for links to preview some of his tunes – and learn about another exciting way that he’s supporting Upstream Arts later this summer.
What’s your background in music and who are your influences? Do you have a website where folks can download or listen to your work?
I was raised on classic rock, blues, and country legends. I was inspired by The Band, The Beatles, Johnny Cash, Elton John, and many more from the 60s and 70s. You can find my music, including my album “Big News Cafe,” in a few different places: Sound Cloud (stream “Big News Cafe”), iTunes (buy “Big News Cafe”), Facebook, and Twitter.
You play in a variety 0f styles and configurations – sometimes solo, sometimes with a band. What can guests at The Art of We expect?
I’ll perform on piano and sing, and most likely I’ll have a guitarist along with me.
In addition to playing at The Art of We, you’ve generously made Upstream Arts the beneficiary of a super exciting event in July. Can you share a bit about that?
Last year, some of my friends and I hosted the 1st Annual David K Open and raised good funds for another charity. We had pro athletes and rock stars, and we hope to be able to bring that kind of excitement this year in support of Upstream Arts! The 2nd Annual David K Open will happen on July 3, 2015, at Deer Run Golf Club in Victoria, Minnesota. My Lake Minnetonka Navigator Magazine advertisers all donate gift cards, so you’re likely to go home a winner no matter what. The silent and live auctions and raffles always bring fun items, and the live entertainment is fabulous (well, I’m just part of it, LOL)… AND you can win a car with a hole in one! Get ready to dress up for the Red, White & Blue costume contest. You can also go ALL BLUE like the blue man group, or fun like a cartoon… BIG prizes for those winners! What inspired you to come be part of our event, as well as support our work through the golf tournament?
I have a special needs brother who is an inspiration to me. He has always been a wonderful, happy, passionate person, and was helped a lot to be more independent by Hammer. My heart goes out to organizations like yours, and I’ll do all I can to help!
Anything else you’d like to share or promote?
Please help spread the word about the golf event to potential sponsors! Different levels – from $50 to $200 to $550 to $1000 to $2000 – offer the proportional amount of mega repetitive exposure. The sooner, the better – there are 3 editions of Lake Minnetonka Navigator Magazine that you’ll receive exposure in… June and July, leading up to the event, and August in the THANK YOU edition.
