As part of our 10th Anniversary festivities, Upstream Arts is honored to be the beneficiary of the 2016 VocalPoint concert, Wind in our Sails: The Creative Art of Packing Our Boats for the Upstream Journey on February 27-28 at Central Presbyterian Church in St. Paul!

What is VocalPoint, you might wonder? It is an intense choral experience that challenges people through music to build a better world. Every year, VocalPoint donates 100% of performance-driven donations to a worthy cause that will make a dramatic impact in everyday lives. It has supported the work of organizations like Open Arms of MinnesotaAvenues for Homeless Youth, Neighborhood House, and The Advocates for Human Rights, working with such gifted musicians as Maria Jette, Steve Staruch, KrisAnne Weiss, Jearlyn Steele and Copper Street Brass Quintet. Through a competitive process, VocalPoint selected Upstream Arts as this year’s worthy cause, and now our amazing colleagues there are working hard to build a concert that will bring a whole new level of visibility to our work and our community. Last year’s concerts were attended by approximately 900 people and raised $24,000! You can learn more about VocalPoint at http://www.vocalpointchorus.org.

We’re so excited to collaborate with VocalPoint to share the Upstream Arts story in a whole new way. Upstream Arts Teaching Artists (some of the most accomplished professional actors, directors, playwrights, poets, musicians, and visual artists in the Twin Cities) will perform alongside VocalPoint’s extraordinary 70-voice chorus at two public concerts; and there will be a retrospective exhibition of images from our programs over the past 10 years.

Whether you are a longtime Upstream Arts fan or curious to learn more, VocalPoint will be a thrilling opportunity to gather in community, see friends old and new, be inspired by gorgeous music, and learn about the work that we do. Concerts are at Central Presbyterian church, a wheelchair-accessible venue, in downtown St. Paul. Both concerts are ASL-interpreted; Braille and large-print programs are available upon request. A free will donation will be collected, with 100% benefiting Upstream Arts.
